REAL WEDDING {Nate & LynnAnn, 12.3.16} Winter Wonderland

Spring is almost here, which means it is time to reflect on one of our winter weddings! On December 3, 2016, Nate and LynnAnn joined their families with a romantic ceremony and reception in our Yellowstone Ballroom. The unexpected snow added ambiance to their wilderness winter themed décor and set the scene for a picture-perfect winter wedding. Here are more details from their big day!

{The Proposal} “He planned nothing. (He always flies by the seat of his pants.) We were going grocery shopping on a Monday night, but he begged me to stop at Holmes Lake first so he could take pictures of "the sunset". In reality, there was no sunset, just clouds. When we got to the lake, he convinced me to get out of the car and come sit on the rocks while he took pictures. He was actually setting up his camera on a tripod pointed at me, and then he got down on one knee and proposed.”


{Why Wilderness Ridge} “We love the outdoors, we love cabins, and even though it was a snowy December wedding, we still felt like we were outside in the wilderness.”


{First Look} “We did the first look right inside the front doors of Wilderness Ridge. Nate was waiting at the top of the stairs, facing the bar, while I came upstairs from the locker rooms. Nate says it was absolutely terrifying, but in retrospect, the anticipation was so exciting!”

{Winter Wonderland} “At first we wanted a fall wedding and neither of us ever imagined getting married in the winter. Thanks to Husker Football season however, that is kind of impossible to do in Lincoln. In retrospect, we could not have chosen a more perfect and beautiful time to get married. The big white snowflakes that were falling the entire day perfectly set the scene for our wedding."


{Picture Perfect} “We LOVE the picture taken outside in front of the big main doors of Wilderness Ridge.  All of our guests ranted and raved about how much they LOVED the giant Christmas tree in the main entry and the pictures taken in front of it turned out amazing. Side note... almost all of the Christmas cards we have received from friends and family have a picture in front of that giant Christmas tree.”

Happy Anniversary!

Valentine’s Day has come and gone, but love is still in the air for these sweethearts! Here are some special memories from our February and March 2016 weddings.

Shane & Alyssa Cullinan {02.06.16} Shane and Alyssa spent their day reminiscing and capturing photographs at their alma mater, Nebraska Wesleyan University. For their reception, they enjoyed a buffet dinner of turkey and pot roast before throwing it back to their childhood with a s’mores station in front of the fire. [Grant Watkins Photography]


Derek & Emma Steinacher {02.13.16} Derek and Emma had a romantic church wedding prior to their reception at Wilderness Ridge. Following dinner, they toasted their marriage with a specialty drink created from Captain Morgan, salted caramel, Frangelico, ½ and ½, Godiva Dark Chocolate Liqueur and garnished with a chocolate drizzle. As they departed, party-goers grabbed their favor, a pair of handwarmers, to brave the cold! [The Leeker’s Photography]


Justin & Jessie Hart {02.20.16} Justin and Jessie utilized the entire building for their elegant ceremony and reception. During cocktail hour in the restaurant, the newlyweds snuck away for a private moment before re-entering the party to socialize with guests during dinner. Following the meal, wedding-goers went across the hall to the Flathead room where there was an array of cupcakes and wedding cake to choose from. [Muller’s Photography]


Ryan & Asia McCoy {03.05.16} Ryan and Asia had an intimate ceremony in front of the fireplace in the Flathead room before moving upstairs for their reception. They warmed the hearts of their guests through their stomachs with a hot chocolate station and a be-your-own-barista station, where individuals concocted their perfect cup of joe! Levi & Britney Derickson {03.12.16} Levi and Britney had a picture-perfect day. After fueling up on our house-made pizza and wings, it was time to ‘say cheese.’ From getting ready, to the emotional first look, to the romantic ceremony, and all the subtle details in between. Why Wilderness Ridge?

{Services} With the rental of the ballroom, we include chivari chairs, tables, glassware, tablecloths, napkins, the dance floor, two fireplaces, a portion of the outside patio and the setup and tear down of the room. Additionally, if you book our outdoor ceremony site, the Wedding Island, we will provide the setup and tear down of 200 white wedding chairs, 2-3 golf carts to escort your guests down to the Wedding Iisland, and a power outlet located conveniently behind the tree. Décor of both spaces is left to your discretion!


{Bon Appetit} Leave the cooking to us! The expansive wedding menu offers cuisine for bridal party snacks, cocktail hours, seated or self-service meals, interactive stations, and late night munchies. Not seeing what you are looking for? Our from-scratch kitchen allows for personalized menus that accommodate your dietary requirements, personal preferences and overall vision. Enjoy a complimentary food tasting for the bride and groom to aid in creating the perfect menu for your special day!


{One-Stop Shop} If you do not want to spend time driving around on your big day, you do not have to. We have men’s and women’s locker rooms available on-site that offer bright lighting for hair and make-up professionals, lockers for storage, and space for your bridal party to relax, eat, drink and enjoy the day. Beyond our doors sits an expansive golf course, including picturesque waterfalls, bridges, ponds and tree-lined paths that set the scene for first looks, bridal party pictures, and family snapshots. Happy Anniversary!

Happy New Year! A new year means more weddings to reflect on and look forward to. Here are some special details from the December 2015 and January 2016 weddings at Wilderness Ridge:

Tom & Erin Stelzer {12.12.15} Tom and Erin personalized their wedding down to the last drop! Wedding guests enjoyed a plated BBQ beef brisket dinner and individual pies for dessert. Then they chose between champagne and Miller High Life (the champagne of beers) for the toast. And for those who needed a late-night snack, there was s’more’s and pizza. Cheers!

Tanner & Annie Boesiger {12.19.15} Tanner and Annie had a beautiful winter wedding! Following their ceremony in the ballroom, guests enjoyed hot chocolate and cider on the patio. As the couple entered the cocktail hour, they were greeted by a tunnel of sparklers and cheers. After re-entering the ballroom, they enjoyed an evening filled with laughter and love. Andrew & Taylor Cannon {12.22.15} Andrew and Taylor created an intimate setting for their ceremony and dinner in the ballroom. With their closest family and friends looking on, they said ‘I Do’ before enjoying conversation and dinner at a family style table in front of the fireplace. Taylor added her personal touch by sending attendees home with jars of Earl Grey tea and French Roast coffee beans. [Emily Kowalski Photography]

Tom Stephens & Heidi Cuca {12.31.15} Tom and Heidi rang in the new year with a wedding celebration! After their ceremony in the ballroom, they enjoyed a quiet dinner with those who attended the ceremony before ringing in the new year. As reception guests arrived, they helped themselves to boneless wings and nachos, and hopped in the Fotobrations booth for silly pictures. To end the evening, poppers were popped and champagne was toasted to commemorate the new year! 

Mark & Andie Young {01.01.16} Mark and Andie kicked off 2016 with a New Year’s Day wedding. The fireplace and lantern-lined aisle set the mood for their cozy indoor ceremony. Following the room flip, patrons grazed on an appetizer buffet filled with BBQ meatballs, bacon-wrapped shrimp, mini crab cakes, smoked salmon and dill caper cream cheese lollipops and house baked pizza with chicken, spinach and artichoke. Johann & Stephanie Schneider {01.09.16} Johann and Stephanie had a special day. Upon arrival and during the room flip, wedding-goers were invited to enjoy hot chocolate in the Loft. Once in the ballroom, the DJ dismissed tables for the buffet by playing a designated song that corresponded with their table. Following dinner, the dancefloor was packed as everyone danced the night away! [Chase Vanderveen photography]

Nate & Amanda Ficken {01.16.16} Nate and Amanda celebrated their nuptials in style. Reception guests snacked on bruschetta and southwest chicken salad pinwheels prior to the arrival of the bridal party. After dinner, they indulged in wedding cake and a mixture of red velvet, marble, and chocolate flavored miniature cupcakes. To end the festivities, the bridal party boarded a bus and bid their adieus!

Bryan & Tosca Ritthaler {01.22.16} Bryan and Tosca had a romantic ceremony in the ballroom. Upon entry, guests signed unopened wine bottles for the bride and groom to enjoy on their first anniversary. Following the candlelit ceremony, party-goers interacted with our chef to create the perfect dish at the macaroni and cheese action station and filled their plates with an assortment of appetizers. Wine and dine!

Ryan & Natalie Wendling {01.23.16} Ryan and Natalie held their ceremony in Colorado where Shoe Photography captured photographs in the snowy mountains. Back in Nebraska, they held a small reception in the Bitterroot and Loft for family and friends. Guests enjoyed light music and heavy appetizers while celebrating with the newlyweds. Have Your Cake and Eat It, Too!

Love is sweet, isn't it? Some cakes are picturesque masterpieces, but lack in flavor. Others satisfy your taste buds but are blank canvases. At Tasteful Indulgence, Cake Art of Seward you can have the best of both worlds.

Kitty Vacha, owner and creator of Tasteful Indulgence, Cake Art of Seward explains how she got her start saying, “I have always love doing anything artistic. While living in Alaska I needed a hobby for the long dark winters and took a couple Wilton cake classes. After the first two courses, they asked me to hurry up and take the third so I could teach for them. Apparently, I had a knack for it! This, however, was short lived as I knew there was so much beyond their format. I spent the next four years studying anything I could online, and practicing at home.” She continued, “I would love to say I had been to a fancy pastry school, but, other than the Wilton courses I am completely self-taught. In May 2011, I opened a small by appointment only cake bakery with the tools I had at home. I spent four years reinvesting all profit and creating what it is today. We now have six employees besides myself!”


It’s all in the name. Choosing a business name to best represent your work can be difficult. Kitty talked me through the process she used when naming her business, explaining, “I wanted a play on words, to reflect that our cakes are indulgent, but tastefully done. Cake Art of Seward was added to make people aware we are indeed trying to create art. We want our cake to be the most amazing you've seen, then when you bite into it... the most delicious you've ever tasted!”


Needless to say, Tasteful Indulgence, Cake Art of Seward is the place to go for special occasion delicacies. Kitty clarified, “We specialize in cake (and cupcakes) and cakes are all we do! We are not a full bakery. We love what we do and stick with what we know!” And when it comes to cake, they have innovative flavors to offer. In fact, Kitty couldn’t choose just one! When asked what her favorite is she said, “It would be a toss-up between Rum Chata cake with homemade buttercream icing that is topped with a heavy cinnamon sugar crunch OR our fresh strawberry with homemade buttercream.” My mouth is watering!


If Kitty cannot decide, how are clients supposed to choose? Their process goes like this: “We offer complimentary consultations for couples who are getting married. In this consultation, we have them bring color swatches, flower preferences, themes, pictures of dresses, how they will decorate the venue, etc. and together we design a cake specifically for their wedding. As a designer, I try and tie in all the elements and create a centerpiece cake/focal point. At this consultation, they also sample our top three flavors: white almond sour cream, fresh strawberry and decadent chocolate cake.” Sign me up!


Now for my favorite part about Tasteful Indulgence, Cake Art of Seward… they deliver their cakes in a hearse. Or, as Kitty would say, “DUDE... NOT HEARSES.... THEY ARE CAKEMOBILES! LOL... after all, our cake is to die for. Seriously, we have a crazy following just for our cars (we are constantly asked to stay for pictures at weddings), and, logistically it's genius! There is a ton of room, roll out access and self-leveling air bags! BOOM!” Have I mentioned that Kitty is a hoot?


Another fun fact is that Tasteful Indulgence, Cake Art of Seward has been on a national TV show. She said, “I had the honor of participating on Food Network's Cake Wars this summer, the SpongeBob episode, and that was a HOOT! It was super fun to fly to Los Angeles and do the "Hollywood" thing, but great to come home to Nebraska.” When Kitty isn’t creating masterpieces, she also gives back to the community. She explained, “I run a prom and homecoming dress closet out of the cake shop. I don't ever want a girl to turn down the opportunity to attend an event for lack of a dress. They are all donated by the community, and the girls are welcome to re-donate them or keep them for future events.”


Recently, Wilderness Ridge had the pleasure of working with Kitty for our Wedding Crash event. Like all vendors, Kitty had full creative freedom. She exclaimed, “My favorite part of the Wedding Crash was having creative freedom. A lot of brides want what is currently trending (and rightfully so) but sometimes it's awesome just to step outside the (cake) box.... go big or go home!” With her freedom, she designed a geode cake that wowed everyone. Her inspiration behind the cake? “My father was a rock hound. I grew up seeing, handling and being around geodes and gems.
